Aisha Yesufu Calls on Nigerians to Fund Peter Obi’s 2027 Campaign

Activist Aisha Yesufu is asking Nigerians to help finance Peter Obi’s bid for the presidency in 2027, saying supporters should share responsibility for the campaign instead of relying on Obi to cover the costs himself.
In a video posted to her X account on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, Yesufu encouraged people to give whatever amount they could afford. She said the appeal was about making citizens active participants in the effort, not simply leaving the fundraising to the candidate.
Yesufu recalled that Obi had been reluctant to accept public donations during his 2023 presidential campaign. She said she had argued for a fundraising drive then because contributors become more invested when they have put their own money behind a cause. In her view, the approach of having Obi largely finance campaign activities himself is no longer sustainable.
The activist stressed that the initiative she is promoting is separate from the official account of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, the party identified in the report as Obi’s political platform. Supporters who want to donate directly to the party, she said, should wait for separate information. Yesufu also promised to keep track of the money received and report contributions, addressing the question of how donations would be accounted for.
Her appeal comes as political figures and groups begin to position themselves ahead of the 2027 election. The report says Yesufu has previously indicated that her role in the campaign will differ from her involvement in the 2022 effort. It also notes other recent expressions of support for or opposition to candidates by religious figures, including a church video featuring praise for Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, alongside separate political endorsements.
For now, Yesufu’s message is a direct call for supporters to contribute according to their means, while keeping the proposed citizen-led fundraising distinct from party donations.
