Diogo Peral faces GFA proceedings after alleged touchline assault on Medeama player

Asante Kotoko assistant coach Diogo Mendes Gomes Pinto Peral has been charged by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) following an incident involving Medeama SC player Ebenezer Adade during a Ghana Premier League match on Sunday, November 1. The association’s disciplinary process will determine whether the coach faces any further sanction.
According to the report, match officials showed Peral a red card after a heated exchange on the touchline. He was alleged to have punched Adade during the confrontation. The GFA later opened proceedings over the incident, which has drawn attention beyond the match result.
In a statement issued on Monday, November 2, the association confirmed that Peral had been charged under Article 12(1)(h) of the GFA Disciplinary Code, 2019. The report says he was given until Wednesday to respond to the charge. His reply is expected to be considered as part of the process before any decision is made about possible penalties.
The match itself ended in a 1-1 draw. Medeama SC scored first, before Musa Hamzata found the equaliser for Kotoko. Both teams therefore left with a point, but the alleged altercation became the main talking point after the final whistle.
The report also notes an earlier disciplinary case involving footballer Emmanuel Annor. The GFA fined him GH¢500 and issued a warning after he removed his jersey to reveal an undershirt carrying the words “I belong to Jesus.” Annor was told that another similar offence could lead to a harsher penalty. Peral’s case remains under review, and the article does not report a final ruling.
