Donald Trump Celebrates Lorne Doerkson’s B.C. Election Win With ‘Big Victory’ Post

Donald Trump has publicly congratulated British Columbia Conservative leader and premier-elect Lorne Doerkson after his party’s election victory, even though Doerkson had sought to distance himself from comparisons with the U.S. president during the campaign.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump linked to a Bloomberg article about the result and called it a “Big Victory,” adding that Conservatives were “moving strong in Canada!” The post followed an earlier message in which he had shared another story about the Conservatives’ win. The article reported that the latest post attracted thousands of likes and a mix of supportive and critical replies.
Some commenters praised Trump’s response and congratulated Doerkson. Others objected to the American president weighing in on Canadian politics, with one reply urging him to stop trying to influence the country. The report also noted that some responses included AI-generated images of Trump.
The election result marked a major setback for the NDP, whose leader David Eby had called an early election. Bloomberg characterized the outcome as an embarrassing defeat for Eby and reported that few left-wing premiers remained in office nationally, apart from Manitoba’s Wab Kinew.
Doerkson’s campaign had previously criticized Eby’s approach to Trump. In a September statement, the Conservatives argued that standing up to the U.S. president required action rather than press releases. Doerkson said a strong response mattered more than tough talk close to an election. The party also promoted a proposal to remove provincial sales tax at the till on Canadian beer, wine and spirits, saying the measure would support local producers and jobs amid Trump’s trade threats.
The article framed Trump’s congratulatory post against that campaign history, but did not establish whether the president’s praise would affect the incoming B.C. government or its relationship with Washington.
