Donald Trump Insults Norway After Nobel Snub and Says Norwegians Are Not Welcome

Donald Trump used a campaign rally in Port Huron, Michigan, to lash out at Norway after failing to receive the Nobel Peace Prize, according to the report. Speaking to supporters ahead of the U.S. midterm elections, he described the country in vulgar terms and said he did not want Norwegian immigrants coming to the United States.
“Frankly, Norway sucks. Norway has become a shithouse country, actually,” Trump said at the Sunday event. He then connected his immigration remarks directly to the Nobel decision: “So I don’t want anybody from Norway.” The article notes that no official announcement indicated a new U.S. immigration policy targeting Norwegian nationals.
Trump has openly sought the prestigious peace prize since returning to the White House in January 2025, the report says. This year’s award went to South African judge and former United Nations human rights chief Navi Pillay. Trump called that outcome “disgraceful and embarrassing” and maintained that he should have been chosen instead.
Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide responded on Monday by emphasizing that the Nobel Committee is independent. Speaking to broadcaster NRK, Eide said Trump knew that, adding that Norway had reminded him of the committee’s independence.
The report also recalls that Trump faced criticism in 2018, during his first term, after using similarly crude language about Haiti and some African countries. His latest comments again tied a public insult aimed at a country to a personal grievance over the award, while leaving the status of Norwegian immigration rules unchanged.
