Kelvin Yeboah reportedly ready to choose Ghana after Italy youth career

Kelvin Yeboah
Kelvin Yeboah may be edging closer to a decision that would bring his international career back to his birthplace. The Minnesota United striker is reportedly prepared to represent Ghana’s senior team if called upon, following years of uncertainty over which country he would play for. Ghanaian sports journalist Derrick Ayim reported that the 26-year-old has spoken with his agency and is now willing to make himself available to the Black Stars. Neither Yeboah nor Ghana’s football association has made an official announcement, so any change remains unconfirmed. Born in Accra, Yeboah previously declined a Ghana senior-team call-up in 2021 and went on to play for Italy at under-21 level. As reported by Sports World Ghana, he had lived and developed as a footballer in Italy, and he had spoken about how growing up there shaped his identity. The reported change of heart would mark a significant turn from that earlier position. Any switch would also have to follow FIFA’s eligibility rules. Ghana’s coaching staff are said to be monitoring the situation, while the prospect of adding a forward with Yeboah’s club form is attracting attention among Black Stars supporters. Transfermarkt figures cited in the report credit him with 18 goals in the current Major League Soccer season, making him Minnesota United’s single-season leading scorer. His performances have reportedly drawn interest beyond the United States, with Premier League side Everton among the clubs said to be tracking him, according to talkSPORT. Yeboah also has a notable family connection to Ghanaian football: he is the nephew of former Black Stars striker Anthony Yeboah, who scored 29 goals in 59 appearances for the national side. For now, though, the key question is whether the reported willingness to represent Ghana becomes a formal decision.
