Malesela Teffo Identified in Viral Prison Dance Video as Officials Launch Search

A video from inside Kgosi Mampuru II Correctional Facility has put disbarred advocate Malesela Teffo in the spotlight. He was identified among offenders seen dancing and playing music in footage that circulated on social media, according to the report.
The clip prompted the Department of Correctional Services to respond. National Commissioner Makgothi Samuel Thobakgale ordered an immediate search of the unit where the people appearing in the video were accommodated.
The operation uncovered five cellphones, 194 Mandrax tablets, dagga, illicit cigarettes and other potentially dangerous objects, the department said. National spokesperson Singabakho Nxumalo described the quantity and nature of the items recovered as evidence of serious security breaches.
The department said offenders identified in the footage, along with anyone found in possession of contraband, would face internal disciplinary proceedings. Their conduct could also be considered when officials assess their profiles, with possible consequences for correctional placement, privileges and related decisions.
Investigators are also working to establish how the recording device and other prohibited items entered the facility. The inquiry will examine whether correctional services officials were involved or negligent, Nxumalo said. The department said appropriate action would follow if wrongdoing is established.
Officials stressed that maintaining discipline and removing unauthorised goods remain priorities. Thobakgale has called on management teams to keep facilities secure, while the department said neither offenders nor staff would be permitted to undermine its rules and security procedures.
