Meghan Markle’s family row sparks fierce on-air clash over allegations against her father

A debate about Meghan Markle and her father, Thomas, grew heated during a live discussion on Channel 5’s Jeremy Vine show, after reports emerged of allegations concerning material allegedly found at his home in the Philippines. Thomas denies the accusations, describing them as “sick lies” to the Daily Mail, according to the report. The story says Thomas’s son, Thomas Jr, allegedly discovered the material and reported it to local authorities. Meghan said she was “deeply distressed” by the allegations. She also said she had first learned of them in a letter from the Metropolitan Police in 2019. Host Jeremy Vine raised reports that Meghan had sent her father a letter in 2025, in which she reportedly urged him to seek professional help. Vine referred to the circumstances in which Thomas received it, saying he was in hospital recovering from a heart attack and had undergone a leg amputation. The article says Thomas did not read the letter aloud at the time. Panellist Marina Purkiss argued that Meghan had relied on information from the police and should not be expected to investigate the claims herself or make public accusations based on second-hand reports. She said Meghan had been told the authorities would handle the matter. Mike Parry challenged that account, questioning whether Meghan had followed up with police and arguing that, given her public profile, she should have done more. Vine pushed back, saying she had received information from the police and that the matter was therefore with them. The exchange became increasingly tense as Parry and Purkiss interrupted one another over what Meghan knew and when. The discussion centred on competing views of Meghan’s responsibility: Purkiss maintained that the allegations were for authorities to investigate, while Parry argued she should have checked what happened after being informed. The report does not establish the allegations as fact; Thomas denies them, and the claims remain allegations.
