Michael Utting shares bleak hospital update amid serious health battle

Former All Whites goalkeeper Michael Utting has shared a frightening update from his hospital bed, saying he fears he may not survive his latest health crisis. The 56-year-old has been dealing with serious heart and other medical complications and has kept supporters informed about his condition through social media.
In a post on Saturday, Utting said doctors had told him his condition had worsened. He described feeling as though his “days are done” and said he was surprised to have made it through the previous night. He also acknowledged that he could not tell whether the message would be his last.
“I think I’m dying slowly. I’m losing the plot,” Utting said, while expressing hope that he would recover. He sent love to those following his updates and paid tribute to several close friends before addressing his family. His message prompted an outpouring of supportive comments, with people urging him to keep fighting and wishing him well.
Utting played for clubs in New Zealand, Australia and South Africa during his career, and made 13 appearances for the All Whites. He suffered a heart attack in 2023. The report also notes that he has spoken about struggling with alcohol during his playing career.
A Givealittle fundraiser has been set up to help with medical costs and support Utting and his family. It had collected more than $1,400 when the report was published.
