Moji Afolayan’s Polygamy Confession and Husband’s Nickname Spark Online Debate

Nollywood actress Moji Afolayan has prompted a lively online discussion after speaking about polygamy and her marriage in an interview with African A-List. A clip from the conversation was shared online, drawing attention to her reflections on a family arrangement she once hoped to avoid.
Afolayan said she grew up in a polygamous household and understood the challenges of that experience. She explained that, when she was younger, she did not want a similar life for herself and would not wish that upbringing on anyone. Yet, as she described it, her own circumstances eventually came to resemble it in one respect: her husband had previously been married, but his first wife died before Afolayan entered his life.
The actress also criticised the way social media users can judge women without knowing the pressures or personal histories behind their decisions. She said she would not knowingly marry a man who intended to take another wife in the future, making clear that this is a boundary for her.
One phrase from the interview became a particular talking point. Referring to her husband, veteran actor Rasaq Olasunkanmi Olayiwola, known professionally as Ojopagogo, Afolayan used the Yoruba expression “Ele Yi Ti Mofe Na,” which the report translates loosely as “This one that I married.” The wording divided commenters, with some questioning what it suggested about their relationship.
Her remarks offered a personal account of how her childhood views and adult life intersected, while also turning attention to the language she used about her husband. The report says viewers took different sides over the phrase, although it does not provide further details about the reactions or any response from Olayiwola.
