Philip Osei Bonsu, widely known on air as O.B., has been named the 2026 Ghana Journalists Association Journalist of the Year. He received the top individual honour at the 30th GJA Media Awards, held in Accra on Saturday, November 7, 2026. The award recognises his work in journalism during the qualifying period. Osei Bonsu hosts Ekosiisen, Asempa FM’s late-afternoon current affairs programme, which covers political and public affairs. He also serves as the station’s programmes manager. Asempa FM is part of the Multimedia Group Limited. His career spans broadcasting and law. Osei Bonsu was called to the Ghana Bar in October 2024 after completing training at the Ghana School of Law. His academic background includes a first-class degree in Linguistics and Theatre Arts from the University of Ghana, an MSc in Corporate Communication and Public Affairs from Robert Gordon University in Scotland, and an LLB from Central University. He has also been a Tullow Scholar and a 2017 Mandela Washington Fellow at the University of San Diego. In January 2026, Avance Media featured him in its inaugural Top 100 Ghanaians Powerlist 2025, naming him in the media category for his work on Ekosiisen. When responding to that earlier recognition, Osei Bonsu credited the programme’s production team. He said the acknowledgement reflected the team’s professionalism and dedication, as well as his commitment to broadcasting and law. This year’s GJA ceremony was held under the theme “Celebrating Excellence, Advancing Media Freedom and Combating Hate Speech in the Digital Age.” Journalists, media organisations and other stakeholders attended the event. Luv FM’s Clinton Yeboah was also among the winners, receiving the Best Radio Feature award.
