Sarah Ferguson Makes Rare Public Return at Former Partner Paddy McNally’s Memorial

Sarah Ferguson stepped back into public view at a thanksgiving service for Paddy McNally, her former partner, months after avoiding his funeral. Her appearance at St Paul’s Church in London drew attention, with Princess Beatrice, Princess Eugenie and their husbands accompanying her.
Ferguson did not attend McNally’s funeral in July; Beatrice represented her at the time. The memorial marked a rare sighting after an extended stretch away from public attention. She had previously been photographed at an Austrian health clinic in April, where reports said a stay could cost about £2,000 per night. Friends characterized that period as one of “recalibrating.”
The service came amid significant upheaval in Ferguson’s life. According to the source, she had lost her Duchess of York title, her home and several charitable and business associations. Her former husband, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, had also lost his princely title and HRH style and left Royal Lodge, moving to accommodation on the Sandringham estate.
McNally had been part of Ferguson’s life for decades. They grew close after she was recruited to help care for his young sons, Sean and Rollo, following the 1980 death of his wife, Anne. Their bond later became romantic, though McNally never proposed marriage.
A prominent figure in motor racing, McNally built considerable wealth through a business partnership with Bernie Ecclestone. The pair helped develop corporate hospitality at races through the Paddock Club. McNally’s properties reportedly included three chalets in Verbier, a Scottish grouse moor, a former country home of Ian Fleming in Wiltshire and a villa in St Tropez.
Ferguson previously described the late McNally as a guiding presence in her life. “Paddy was my father figure, 22 years older than me,” she said, according to the Daily Mail. She also recalled turning to him for advice, praising his worldly experience. Her attendance at the memorial offered a public reminder of the longstanding personal connection they shared.
