Stephanie Pillay Promises DStv Subscribers Lower Prices and More Choice

MultiChoice Botswana CEO Stephanie Pillay says the broadcaster is reshaping its packages to respond to subscribers who want lower costs and more control over what they watch. The changes, announced in Gaborone under the “Expect More” campaign, are due to take effect on 5 November.
The overhaul introduces five new packages and price reductions across several existing options. Starter will fall from P140 to P120, Family from P295 to P280, and Premium from P860 to P800. Pillay said the aim was to make DStv feel like better value rather than a purchase customers resent.
The company is also promising 40% fewer repeats, a pledge aimed at viewers who have complained about seeing programmes come around again. Sports fans are being offered a dedicated package costing P400, which includes competitions such as the UEFA Champions League, Premier League, PSL and La Liga.
A new Movies and Series option will cost P420 and include M-Net. DStv Access will also get a live Premier League match each week through SuperSport Kickoff. The revised line-up is designed to let subscribers choose a narrower package around the content they care about, instead of paying for a broader selection.
Pillay also highlighted the company’s commitment to local productions. She said Mzansi Magic had commissioned three additional locally made films that were scheduled to air later this year, describing MultiChoice as a storyteller for both Africa and Botswana.
The announcement sets out the broadcaster’s pitch, but subscribers will judge the change by what appears on screen after the new packages arrive. Lower prices and fewer repeats are the promises; the viewing experience will show whether the new options deliver the value Pillay says customers have been asking for.
